From floods to hurricanes, the North Country boaters and businesses experienced one crazy summer in 2011. Through it all we still ended up enjoying plenty of sunny days and warm water out on the lakes. Often people forget that their beloved boat has taken a beating during those epic summer adventures. It is important not to forget to take proper care of your investment and get it winterized properly and make any necessary repair so that it will be ready for next year.
The boat is truly a vessel that enriches lives. It gives us the opportunity to escape for a little while and, in some cases, put food on the table. Whether you have your boat professionally winterized or do it yourself, here are a few tips to winterizing your boat.
1. Use a marine fuel stabilizer and run it to get it spread throughout the fuel system
2. Change all filters and fluids
3. Drain all water from the engine, ballast tanks, heater, etc.
4. Run Non-Toxic Antifreeze through the system and drain again.
5. Use Fogging Oil to lubricate the cylinders.
6. Disconnect battery and charge occasionally throughout off-season.
7. Attach bailer/bilge plug to steering wheel.
8. Shrink wrap or tarp boat so snow cannot build up.
